Portencross Castle is situated on the North Ayrshire coast of Scotland overlooking the Firth of Clyde. The location affords stunning views of Arran, Bute and the islands of Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae. The castle is steeped in history and dates back to the 14th century although there is evidence of much earlier fortification at a site located nearby.
The efforts of the local community at Portencross to preserve the castle ruin have led to a detailed archaeology study and major conservation works to stablise the building. In 2004 it was one of the buildings featured in the BBC television series Restoration. In September 2010 the castle was opened up to the public. As part of an interpretive exhibition in the castle's cellar, the Friends of Portencross Castle commissioned me to produce a series of detailed illustrations which reveal the phases of the castle's development over time.

Using information from a detailed archeological report and from advice by expert historians and lead conservation architects, I have reconstructed Portencross castle as a series of graphics and cutaway visuals.
Client's comments:
"Thanks to the creativity and detailed work of Bob Marshall, the drawings we have of how Portencross Castle looked in its heyday leave a marvellous legacy for visitors and future generations to appreciate. They are of the highest quality and have greatly enhanced the interpretation work. Kind regards and many thanks." -
